History of kratom referred to as Kratom / Mitragyna Speciosa since thousands of years ago and information and research about it. The first signs of medical research were noted in 1907 when L. Wray sent samples of Kratom / Mitragyna Speciosa and relatives to the University of Edinburgh where Hooper isolated the alkaloids. This research was improved in 1921 when Fray named the alkaloid Mitragynine and isolated Mitraversine from the leaves of Mitragyna parvifolia. Another medical study came in the 1930s from I. H. Burkill, who studied its psychoactive effects and described its traditional as use benefit, mentioning it as a treatment for diarrhea and fever and as a poultice and ointment. This study was confirmed by a Thai study in 1975 by Dr. Sangun Suwanlert, as well as the discovery of three additional alkaloids.
