History of kratom referred to as Kratom / Mitragyna Speciosa since thousands of years ago and information and research about it. This Kratom / Mitragyna Speciousa has been spreading accurately for hundreds of years. Over the years many botanists and researchers have succeeded in conveying the true value of this plant, but long-term studies on Kratom / Mitragyna Specioiusa are still pending quality research. Unlike other herbs, History of Kratom / Mitragyna Speciousa has no romantic history and is mostly associated with traditional uses as well as traditional medicine for hard-working farmers and workers in Southeast Asia. According to Western literature, the first description of Kratom / Mitragyna Speciosa comes from Pieter Willem Korthals, a botanist working for the East India Company. Additional literature comes from Low, in 1836. He mentions that Malaysian peasants and rural workers distributed it in Malaysia.

The first signs of medical research were noted in 1907 when L. Wray sent samples of Kratom / Mitragyna Speciosa and relatives to the University of Edinburgh where Hooper isolated the alkaloids. This research was improved in 1921 when Fray named the alkaloid Mitragynine and isolated Mitraversine from the leaves of Mitragyna parvifolia. Another medical study came in the 1930s from I. H. Burkill, who studied its psychoactive effects and described its traditional as use benefit, mentioning it as a treatment for diarrhea and fever and as a poultice and ointment. This study was confirmed by a Thai study in 1975 by Dr. Sangun Suwanlert, as well as the discovery of three additional alkaloids.
